Seven Fun Fall Activities Everyone Will Want To Participate In

Spread the love

Hello Fall

Here we are, in the colorful season of Fall/Autumn.  The days are getting shorter, and the nights are cooler. Once again Mother Nature will be putting on a beautiful show of color for all to enjoy.  With the change in seasons comes the question, of what type of activities are there to do that are seasonally appropriate.  Of course, many activities are weather dependent, but if you check the weather forecast and plan ahead, you will be sure to enjoy the fun Fall activities I have suggested below.

Memories Of Fun Fall Activities

When I was younger, I remember raking leaves in our backyard and then watching our kids and dogs run through the piles of leaves.  We would also take an occasional drive through our Metro Park to enjoy the beautiful array of colors displayed by the trees.  There was always so much joy in such a simple activity.  The fun doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive.

The weather here in Ohio can be quite beautiful in the Fall, which is why I like to enjoy the outdoors with fun Fall activities before the bitter cold sets in.

Enjoy All that Mother Nature Has To Offer

I’ve put together a list of seven fun Fall activities, which I think everyone can enjoy. More importantly, I feel everyone will want to participate in the fun. The more the merrier!  These activities are based mostly around nature.  In my humble opinion, getting outside and enjoying all Mother Nature has to offer this time of year can be quite beneficial to our mental and physical health.

Seven Fun Fall Activities:

  1. Pick apples – Visit a local apple orchard where you can pick your own apples.  There is nothing better than picking them yourself and then bringing them home to either bake a yummy pie or cut them up and dip them in some gooey caramel.   Perhaps you will be able to take a hayride out to where you can pick the apples.  This would make a perfect fun fall activity!  To me, the smell of apples is the essence of Fall.

  2. Paint pumpkins – This is an activity my family has really enjoyed in the past.  You can paint outside on a nice day or set up a table in your garage to keep any mishaps from happening in your home.  I have found it best to purchase small pumpkins so that they are easy to handle while painting.  I also prefer to purchase the white pumpkins only because it is a blank canvas to paint on rather than trying to cover the orange color.  Be sure to lay out plenty of old towels or newspapers as placemats for everyone to use as their work zone.  I like to use washable paint for easy clean-up.  It is so much fun to see the creativity of others, especially the little ones.

  3. Enjoy time around a campfire – The warmth from a campfire is simply the best!!  I have so many fond memories of sitting around a campfire and listening to stories, playing fun campfire games like the telephone game (there are others, but I’d never be able to explain in a short blog post, lol), toasting marshmallows for S’mores or making pies & sandwiches over the fire.  Popping popcorn to eat while sitting around the fire is another favorite pastime of mine.  Summing this activity up, it seems like a food fest to say the least.
  4. Stop by a Winery – Perhaps my top favorite fun Fall activity!  The smell of grapes in the air this time of year in Ohio near the wineries is DIVINE!  Enjoy a glass of your favorite wine or participate in a wine tasting.  There are always so many to choose from.  My wine preference is on the sweeter side, and preferably white, so my go-to is a Riesling or Moscato.  I’m not much of a wine connoisseur, I just know what appeals to my tastebuds.  Unfortunately, red wine gives me a headache so I know to stay away from it.
  5. Roast pumpkin seeds – While this isn’t an outdoor activity, I did NOT want to leave it out.  We purchase pumpkins every year for the sole purpose of roasting the seeds.  There are so many tasty options for seasoning your seeds.  Here are a few things we have tried and really enjoyed:  Garlic salt & pepper | a dry packet of ranch dressing  & olive oil | and of course the old standby, just salt.  All are tasty options.  Roasted pumpkin seeds never last long in my house.  I could eat them all day every day!
  6. Decorate your home – You don’t have to go crazy with decorations, however, adding a few pumpkins to your doorstep or a Fall wreath to your front door definitely brings the Fall spirit to life.  You can keep things even easier by picking up some festive Fall window stickers or placemats for your dinner table from The Dollar Tree.  You don’t need to spend a lot of money on decorations, which is why I like to shop at The Dollar Tree.  A little bit goes a long way as far as decorating is concerned.  I love decorating my front porch area; however, I do not decorate the inside of the house.  I save that task for Christmastime.

Host or attend a costume party – In recent years my husband and I have attended a costume party at a local horse rescue where we volunteer.  Each year we pick a horse to dress up, and we dress up as well in a coordinating costume.  Last year, we dressed up the largest horse at the barn, Big John, as a cat.  My husband was a vampire and I was a bat.  Big John was very cooperative with the costume, as he always is. The year prior to last, we dressed the donkey, Amigo, as a scarecrow to match our scarecrow costumes.  He on the other hand didn’t care for being dressed up, however, he did well with a little coaxing.  It really is so much fun to get into the Halloween spirit with a creative costume and celebrate the season with friends and/or family.

Embrace the changes

In my honest opinion, being outdoors doing some type of fun Fall activity can be quite uplifting. This is especially true if you are enjoying time with family and/or friends.  What better time than Fall to connect with nature.

Get outside and appreciate what Mother Nature has to offer this Fall season.  Embrace the changes that come with the seasons. Getting out and enjoying nature is a wonderful exercise of self-care.
