Easy Chocolate Macaroons

This is a family favorite recipe for Chocolate Macaroons.  They are more commonly known as chocolate crinkle cookies, but our family has always called them chocolate macaroons.  I have no idea why, but I’m sticking with the family name.

I remember my mom baking these delicious cookies every year at Christmas among many other delicious bakery items.

Because the dough requires refrigeration time, my siblings and I would eat the refrigerated dough faster than my mom could get the cookies baked. While the dough is pure heaven, I don’t recommend eating it as it contains raw eggs. As a kid, I didn’t think about the consequences of eating raw cookie dough.

I’m certain my mom would be frustrated with us kids getting into the dough, but she always just mixed up more without complaint.

    1. So happy you enjoyed this post 🙂

  1. Omg! I’ve always been so afraid to make macaroons… they seemed so intimidating to bake, but you definitely put the E in easy for me! Thank you ♥️

    1. So glad you found this recipe easy to follow. If I can bake these, anyone can lol. Enjoy!

  2. These look amazing! What a fun treat to make that is so different than the traditional Christmas cookies this time of the year! Thanks for sharing this with us!

    1. Thanks! They really are delicious. I don’t think you will be disappointed. Have a wonderful holiday!

    1. Enjoy! Your son may really enjoy rolling the cookies in powdered sugar 🙂

  3. I’m in the UK, can you clarify how much chocolate I should use please? Do you mean two small segments or two bars of chocolate? Approx how much do they weigh please?
    Many Thanks, Susan

    1. Hello Susan! I’m sorry for the confusion. 1 ounce of baking chocolate is the correct amount. According to the box of Baker’s Unsweetened Chocolate I’m currently using, 4 small pieces equal 1 ounce. I do hope this helps 🙂

  4. Can I use almond flour to make it keto friendly? Thanks for the answer!

    1. Thank you for your question! I have not personally tried using almond flour in this recipe so I did a little research. Almond flour can be substituted for all-purpose flour 1:1. Using almond flour will likely change the consistency of the bread a bit. I’d be curious to know if you do try this ratio and how it turns out. Happy baking!

  5. Approximately how many cookies does this make? Can the recipe be doubled with same results or do you recommend 2 separate batches?

    1. This recipe makes approximately 4 1/2 dozen cookies as long as you roll them into the size of a walnut as the recipe indicates. You absolutely can double the recipe and achieve the same results. 🙂

  6. I was expecting to see a recipe with coconut in it.

    1. Sorry if you were disappointed. As I mentioned in the blog post, these cookies are more commonly referred to as crinkle cookies. However, this is an old family recipe which has always been referred to as chocolate macaroons.

  7. These look so yummy. I will save for later to bake with my kids.

    1. They are so good! The kids will love helping and taste testing I’m sure lol
