Practical Spring Cleaning Tips for Your Mind to Inspire Productivity

How can spring cleaning tips for your mind increase your productivity you ask?  Here are my thoughts.  Throughout the winter months, cobwebs can set in and we become somewhat stagnant.  In reality, we know we need to get things done; however, we procrastinate.

Perhaps the winter blues have caught up with us and drained our minds and bodies of any sense of productivity.  We long for springtime, warmer weather, and longer, sunnier days.

Spring is a time for new beginnings, new life, refreshing, and awakening from the winter slumber.  What better time to spring into action clean and out those cobwebs and get moving?!

Spring Cleaning Tips for Your Mind

Declutter

Clutter creates chaos whether it be in your home, your workspace, your car, etc.  First, take time to spring clean and declutter areas you tend to spend the majority of your time in.

Be sure to get rid of things you no longer use or have not used in the past year.  Try using the “keep it”, “toss it”, and “donate it” systems.  You may find yourself more likely to get rid of things if you are donating them to a charity rather than just throwing things away.

By creating some sense of organization in the spaces you spend the most time, your mind will feel less chaotic, and you will enjoy these spaces so much more.

One of My Favorite Spring-Cleaning Tips for Your Mind – Brain Dump

Think of this suggestion as if you are spring cleaning a junk drawer.  To start with, you empty the drawer completely, purging what is not needed, and then put things back in the drawer in a methodical fashion.

How does this translate to spring cleaning tips for your mind?  For example, start by writing down everything you can think of that is weighing on your mind.

Then, take a look at what you have written down and cross off any negative non-productive thoughts.

Finally, prioritize/organize the remainder of your thoughts.  Ultimately, you are left with an organized list leaving you in a better frame of mind which will lead to increased productivity.

Decompress

If you are one to be on the go all the time, you may find it difficult to take the time to rest and refocus.  Perhaps, just the idea of sitting and relaxing is cringeworthy to you.  However, we all need time to just sit and do nothing.

For example, just sit and look out the window and take in the wonders of Mother Nature.  Or just take some time to do whatever you want to do.  Listen to what your body is telling you it needs.  If it’s sleep, then take a nap.  If it’s rest from being social, stay home and enjoy your own company.

Meditation

Meditation can be difficult for some, myself included.  However, meditation has so many benefits increasing productivity being one of them.

For instance, by just taking a few minutes each day to meditate, you will find yourself feeling calmer, more joyful, and more productive.  Now those are things we could all use in our lives, right?

Turn Off Your Electronics – Perhaps One of The Most Difficult Spring-Cleaning Tips for Your Mind

This is a brilliant way to spring clean your mind!  In this high-tech world we live in, it seems most people including myself rely on our phones, laptops, and tablets for everything.  In turn, we find it extremely difficult to put them down or “unplug” for any length of time.

An easy way to set yourself up for success with this tip is to first set a time of day you would like to “unplug”.  Perhaps it is during dinner time, or for the first ½ hour you are awake in the morning.

Start by setting boundaries and communicating to others that this your “downtime”.  This way, no one is left wondering why they are unable to reach.  Communication is always best practice.

So, you have “unplugged”, now what?  Find ways to keep busy that don’t require the use of electronics.  For example, read a book or magazine, go for a walk, bake/cook, take up a hobby, exercise, journal, meditate, take a nap, brush your dog if you own one, clean out a closet, brain dump, self-care, and the list goes on and on, you just need to be creative.

To sum things up, keeping things in your life uncluttered, brain dumping, decompressing, meditating, and/or unplugging from your electronics will help increase your productivity in many aspects of life.

It is my opinion that keeping things simple can increase your happiness and improve your overall well-being

Be well…
