Eco-Friendly Tips for the Kitchen
Switch to Cloth Napkins
Instead of reaching for paper napkins, try using cloth napkins for everyday meals. This is one of the easiest eco-friendly swaps you can make to reduce waste at home.
I found some reusable cloth napkins that come in so many pretty colors, and they make everyday meals feel just a little more special while saving money over time.
Replace Plastic Wrap with Reusable Covers
Swapping plastic wrap for reusable dish covers is one of those simple sustainable living tips that quickly becomes second nature. They stretch over different containers and wash up really well.
Beeswax wraps are another great eco-friendly option. I’ve used them in the past and loved how simple and effective they are.
Eco-Friendly Tips for Food Storage: Choose Glass Over Plastic
Switching from plastic to glass containers is an easy way to make your kitchen more eco-friendly. Plastic can stain, hold odors, and sometimes leach chemicals into your food. These glass food storage containers work great!
Glass containers are reusable, durable, and safe for storing leftovers, meal prep, or dry goods. They also help reduce plastic waste in your home. Using glass is a small change that makes a big difference for both your health and the environment.
These small changes are part of creating a home that’s both functional and eco-friendly. For more ideas on essentials I use and love in my home, check out my post on 10 Home Essentials for Midlife Women.

Ditch Paper Towels
This was a big one for me. I used to go through rolls of paper towels without even thinking about it.
Now I use reusable cloths or unpaper towels. They’re super absorbent, easy to wash, and honestly, I don’t miss paper towels at all. It’s one of the easiest ways to reduce waste at home and save money at the same time.
Use Silicone Baking Mats Instead of Foil
Instead of lining pans with foil, try reusable silicone baking mats. This simple eco-friendly tip helps cut down on kitchen waste and saves money over time since you’re not constantly repurchasing foil.
Swap Disposable Bags for Reusable Snack Bags
Instead of constantly buying disposable bags, reusable snack bags are a great eco-friendly swap.
The ones I use are BPA-free, dishwasher-safe, and come in different sizes. I usually flip them inside out to dry faster, which works really well.
Say No to Single-Use Straws
Reusable straws are such an easy switch when working toward a more sustainable lifestyle. I personally prefer stainless steel straws because they last forever, but there are also silicone and bamboo options.
If you’re on the go often, collapsible straws are really convenient to keep in your bag.
Skip K-Cups
K-cups create a surprising amount of waste. On top of that, the plastic used in many single-use pods is exposed to high heat during brewing, which can cause chemicals to leach into your coffee over time.
Switching to ground coffee with a reusable filter is one of those eco-friendly tips that not only helps reduce waste but can also give you a little more peace of mind. It’s a simple change that saves money and feels like a healthier choice all around.
Try a Pour-Over Coffee Maker
I made the switch to a pour-over coffee maker and ended up loving the taste even more. The one I use includes a reusable filter, which means no waste at all and no need to keep buying filters. Making simple changes in your kitchen like this can also support healthier habits

Eco-Friendly Personal Care Tips
Use Reusable Facial Rounds
Instead of disposable cotton rounds, reusable facial rounds are a great, eco-friendly alternative.
Just toss them in the wash and reuse. It’s a simple way to reduce waste at home without changing your routine too much.

Switch to Bar Soap – Eco-Friendly Tip
Bar soap is a simple, sustainable living tip that helps reduce plastic waste. It also tends to last longer than bottled body wash, making it a budget-friendly choice.
Wash Laundry in Cold Water
Washing in cold water helps reduce energy use and still gets clothes clean. It’s one of those eco-friendly tips for your home that saves money without any extra effort.
Use Wool Dryer Balls Instead of Dryer Sheets
Swap disposable dryer sheets for wool dryer balls.
Dryer sheets may smell nice, but they coat your clothes in synthetic chemicals and leave residues that can irritate sensitive skin. They’re also single-use, which adds unnecessary waste to landfills.
Wool dryer balls, on the other hand, are reusable, reduce drying time, and naturally soften your clothes without any harsh chemicals. Plus, you can add a few drops of your favorite essential oil to make laundry smell fresh without harming the environment.
These are my favorite wool dryer balls.
Choose Cleaner Beauty Products
Using products with cleaner ingredients is not only better for your skin but also supports a more eco-conscious lifestyle.
Eco-Friendly Tips for Your Home
Use Concentrated Cleaners
Many household cleaners are mostly water. Using concentrated versions allows you to add water at home, which helps reduce plastic waste and makes these products more cost-effective. Or, you can make your own cleaners.
Bring Your Own Shopping Bags
Reusable canvas bags are such an easy habit to build. I keep a few in my car so I always have them when I need them.
This is one of the most practical eco-friendly tips for reducing waste while shopping.
Stop Buying Bottled Water
Switching to a reusable stainless-steel water bottle is one of the simplest eco-friendly swaps you can make.
If you’re looking for more ideas, I love the tips shared on Karma.Style about reducing plastic bottle use.
Support Environmentally Conscious Brands
When possible, choose to support companies that prioritize sustainability. It’s a simple way to align your spending with your values.

Eco-Friendly Gift Wrapping Ideas
Instead of traditional wrapping paper, try using reusable canvas gift bags.
This is such a fun and practical eco-friendly idea. I’ve used these for different occasions, and they’re always a hit. They feel like an extra gift and can be reused repeatedly.

Thanks so much! So glad to hear you are working towards sustainable living. I definately is a process which takes time. Glad you found the tips helpful!!
We have been gradually trying to implement a lot of your tips over the last several years. Stainless steel straws, eco-friendly cleaners and beauty products, less paper products, etc. Our state actually has a plastic bag ban, which has made me so much better about remembering my reusable bags when out shopping! Recycling is also big where I live, everyone has a big bin we put out with our garbage, and recycling bins are in stores, hotels, etc. I am always a bit disheartened when I travel to other areas that don’t recycle!
Very interesting to hear about the plastic bag ban in your state. That’s really a great thing in my opinion. It is unfortunate that not all areas recycle, but it is the same where I live; some areas recycle and some don’t. I don’t quite understand it.
Wow thank you so so much for putting this together. I do believe it’s time for all of us to do our part. We only have one home and we have to keep it clean and healthy!
PS I want those beeswax food covers!
