Enjoy The Many Benefits Of Self-love To Awaken Your Mind, Body & Soul

Spread the love

What are the benefits of self-love and exactly what is it?  The benefits are many, such as lessening anxiety and stress, increasing motivation, as well as personal growth.  Self-love in a nutshell is the appreciation of one’s own worth, proper regard, and attention to one’s own happiness or well-being.

The difference between self-love and self-care is self-love is being mindful of how you feel about yourself, whereas self-care is focused on the action of taking care of yourself.

Self-love is something we must teach ourselves; it is not something we are born with.  Most often we don’t realize its importance until later in life. Personally, I was well into midlife before I realized how self-love could and has improved the quality of my life.

In this blog post, I will be discussing a handful of benefits of self-love which in my opinion are significant.

BENEFITS OF SELF-LOVE

HAVE A POSITIVE MINDSET

Stop the negative self-talk.  Talk to yourself as if you were speaking about a dear friend.  Or, think to yourself what would a dear friend say about you? Then, take those same words and repeat them to yourself.  You deserve the same positive self-talk as your friend does.  You are worthy & deserve to be loved.

BUILD SELF-CONFIDENCE:  ONE HUGE BENEFIT OF SELF-LOVE

Be responsible for negative situations in your life.  Reflect on those situations and think to yourself what do I need to do to change my situation.  Then, implement those changes right away.  Don’t wait.  There is no better time than the present.  By creating positive change and owning your situations you will build self-confidence to help you face new situations head-on.

MOTIVATION IS ONE OF THE AMAZING BENEFITS OF SELF-LOVE

No one is perfect so let go of perfectionism.  It can only lead you down a rabbit hole of negativity and lack of motivation because nothing you do will ever be good enough in your own mind’s eye.

I used to be a perfectionist to the point that I would feel ill if things were not just so.  After many years of trying to be perfect, I finally realized that perfectionism was my attempt to please others when in reality it didn’t matter what others thought.  Actually, no one really cared.   Just do your best, that is all anyone could ask of you.

done is good enough

By letting go of perfectionism you may find yourself increasingly motivated to complete additional projects because you will not be focused on perfectionism.

ENHANCE RELATIONSHIPS INCLUDING THE RELATIONSHIP WITH YOURSELF:

How you treat yourself shows others how you want them to treat you.  Harsh reality I know, but it’s true.  If you treat yourself with respect, love, and compassion, others will ultimately behave the same way toward you.

BENEFITS OF SELF-LOVE:  LEARNING TO SET BOUNDARIES

By valuing yourself and your time you will be able to set boundaries for yourself.  You will be able to say “no” without feeling guilty.  This can be difficult for many; however, you need to remember you are just as important as the next person and it is ok to say “no”.

ACTS OF SELF-LOVE

FUEL YOUR PASSION

Find something you are passionate about and go do it.  It could be anything from joining a book club, taking up knitting or crocheting, join a golf league.  The sky is the limit.  Allow yourself the time to do what you love.

I found volunteering has enriched my life tremendously.  It has built my self-confidence a great deal allowing me to do challenging things I might not have otherwise attempted.

FORGIVE YOURSELF

Practice forgiveness by letting go of past mistakes.  Let go of resentment towards others as holding on to resentment will only cause you pain in the long run.  Learn to love yourself despite the difficulties.  Learn from past failures.  As they say, fail forward.

GET OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE

Try something new on your own.  Head to a new coffee shop or restaurant, go to a movie, or for a relaxing car ride through a local park.  Soak in every moment while you are engaging in one of these activities.  This exercise will help you get over your insecurities about doing things alone and learn to appreciate your own company.

JOURNAL

Keep a journal.  Write down your thoughts, how you are feeling, and what your goals are short or long-term.  There are different types of journaling and you may need to experiment to see what works best for you.

Recently, I came across a beautiful journal through Silk & Sonder.  I fell in love with the journal when I viewed their website & I signed up right away.

Journal

Once my journal arrived, I was afraid to write in it because it is so beautiful.  However, I was reminded that the journal was mine to use as I please, to be creative with, and be inspired by.  And, I would be getting a new journal next month with a whole new theme.  Journaling has also inspired me to be more creative with the use of these beautifully colored Fineliner pens. I can’t tell you how excited I am to sit down with my journal every day and just let my thoughts flow.  It has been one of the best forms of self-love for me.

It is my hope that one or more of the above reminders will help you enjoy the many benefits of self-love.

Be well.
