Easy Chocolate Macaroons

Spread the love

This is a family favorite recipe for Chocolate Macaroons.  They are more commonly known as chocolate crinkle cookies, but our family has always referred to them as chocolate macaroons.  I have no idea why, but I’m sticking with the family name.

I can remember my mom baking these delicious treats every year at Christmastime among oodles of other delicious cookies.

Because the dough requires refrigeration time, my siblings and I would eat the refrigerated dough faster than she could get the cookies baked.  Oh, the dough is pure heaven!  I don’t recommend eating it though as it contains raw eggs.  When I was a kid, we didn’t think about the ramifications of eating raw cookie dough.

I’m certain my mom would be frustrated with us kids getting into the dough, but she always just mixed up more without complaint.

    1. Enjoy! Your son may really enjoy rolling the cookies in powdered sugar 🙂

  3. I’m in the UK, can you clarify how much chocolate I should use please? Do you mean two small segments or two bars of chocolate? Approx how much do they weigh please?
    Many Thanks, Susan

    1. Hello Susan! I’m sorry for the confusion. 1 ounce of baking chocolate is the correct amount. According to the box of Baker’s Unsweetened Chocolate I’m currently using, 4 small pieces equal 1 ounce. I do hope this helps 🙂

  4. Can I use almond flour to make it keto friendly? Thanks for the answer!

    1. Thank you for your question! I have not personally tried using almond flour in this recipe so I did a little research. Almond flour can be substituted for all-purpose flour 1:1. Using almond flour will likely change the consistency of the bread a bit. I’d be curious to know if you do try this ratio and how it turns out. Happy baking!

  5. Approximately how many cookies does this make? Can the recipe be doubled with same results or do you recommend 2 separate batches?

    1. This recipe makes approximately 4 1/2 dozen cookies as long as you roll them into the size of a walnut as the recipe indicates. You absolutely can double the recipe and achieve the same results. 🙂
