When it comes to self-care, men usually don’t think anything about doing it. To be honest, most men don’t think that self-care is important to do. Here are 10 self-care tips for men!

10 Tips for Men To Practice Self-Care

  • Journal – Simply writing about what is happening can be a great form of self-care.
  • Learn a new hobby – Learning something new can keep your mind sharp while offering a sort of escape into something new and exciting!
  • Meditate – Like journaling, meditation can help you get your thoughts and feelings in good order, and help you express them.
  • Get a facial – Spa activities like facials are a great way to just relax and take care of your skin!
  • Find a group of like minded men to connect with – Finding other men who practice self-care is a great idea. You can get ideas and inspiration.
  • Start a yoga practice – Yoga is a great activity for both self-care and weight loss. Men have been starting to incorporate yoga into their self-care practice.
  • Spend time in nature (camping, etc.) – It’s almost a give-in that most men do enjoy some activity outdoors. I don’t wish to generalize, but outside activities tend to be perfect for self-care.
  • Take a weekend trip either alone or with friends – Just like finding a group of like minded men to share your practice with, taking a weekend away with friends or alone is a great way to connect.
  • Read more about something interesting that you’re curious about – Learning and reading are always great ways to practice self-care. There’s something about expanding our minds that makes men feel more powerful. I do not quite understand it, but I can agree that it’s true.
  • Take up a mindfulness/breathing practice – Pairing mindfulness and breathing with a yoga practice is the final activity I wanted to mention today. The combination of these practices are almost unstoppable when it comes to self-care for men!

These are just a few things you can do. This brings up another question for many men and that is, “why should I practice self-care?” I wish the answer was simple, but it’s not. The short answer is that self-care is often seen as part of health care. You cannot pour from an empty cup, and as men, we often feel like we are doing a lot all at once. If you don’t take care of yourself, it’s impossible for you to take care of others. In addition, when you take time for self-care, you take time to recharge your own batteries.

The trick is often finding the time to do the self-care. With lives being as busy as they are, this is often the biggest challenge of all. In addition to timing, being unsure of how to start practicing self-care is another barrier. Men just need to take 5 minutes a day to start practicing self-care. That can be as easy as meditation or journaling, or any of the other activities mentioned in this blog post!

I think it’s safe to say we’ve covered many great self-care tips for men today. Self-care is healthcare for not just women and children, but also men. Men must begin or continue a self-care practice. Given all the mental health benefits such a practice grants, there is also a logical reason. So next time the man you love asks about self-care, show them this article and encourage him to begin a practice of his own.

  1. This article is a great reminder the men in my life could use a little self-care. All too often I think of ‘self-care’ for myself and my lady friends – but will certainly take some of the advice here and share with the guys I know.

    1. Hello Stephanie,

Thank you so much for commenting and I’m glad you enjoyed the article. It is so important that men and women BOTH get self-care in! Let the men in your life know that they deserve it 🙂 Have a blessed day!

      Rob

  2. Awesome post! I do journaling, meditation and currently learning Spanish. I find these things help me to relax and be in the moment.

    1. Hi Nisee!

    1. Hi Tracy,

Thank you so much for taking a peek at the article. I love reading too and it I am working on the fitness part lol. I hope that the men in your life make time for self-care 🙂 Be well!

  3. Ah! So easy to falter from self-care! Loved this article, ty for the reminder.

  4. The men in my family would count watching TV as self care. LOL. They do enjoy getting out into nature though, which is great for mental health.

    1. Hi Susan!
Going out in nature is a great form of self-care because of the immense benefits of the fresh air, etc. Watching TV can be self-care too so I get that. Nothing like binging a few episodes of your favorite show!

  5. I always encourage my hubby to have guy time. I think guys forget that after they get married that they are allowed to still have time with the boys. My hubby goes on dinner trips to places I can’t eat at due to allergies, he has boys only game nights, and he has a little office space where he can get online and chat with his friends in his downtime. He’s happy and relaxed and it really improves our relationship when he gets the self care he deserves!

    1. Hi Krystian!
Wow, that is amazing. See, you hit the nail on the head. Each person needs their own form(s) of self-care. The trick is to balance it out with relationships and life. It sounds like your hubby has a nice balance and I love that you support it so much!

  6. This is a great resource for self-care tips for men. I love all the great suggestions like journaling and mediation. Men need to prioritize self care, too!

    1. Hi Debbie,

We men often put self-care aside for other things. I am so glad you loved the tips and tricks. One way to encourage more men to practice self-care is to do the activities with them and then let them go on their own with whatever resonates with them too.

    1. Hi Alison!
Thank you for your kind words 🙂 I think some men feel that self-care is just for the ladies. They couldn’t be more wrong. It’s for everyone and men should feel free to enjoy the benefits of a thriving self-care practice 🙂

  7. Men just like women should take time for self care. Great tips for men.

    1. Absolutely! It’s hard for men to realize the importance of their own self-care. This post is really beneficial for men to read and learn the essential practices of self-care. Thanks for stopping by to commment!
